Breast augmentation in Düsseldorf: consultation, surgery and aftercare in one place

Consultation room of the clinic
Consultation room

Your breast augmentation takes place at Klinik am Seestern in Düsseldorf, from the first consultation to the follow-up appointments afterwards. The specialist clinic for plastic and aesthetic surgery has its own operating theatres and patient rooms: you are advised and operated on in the same place where you also spend the night after the procedure and where you return for aftercare.

The clinic is on the left bank of the Rhine in Lörick, in the Am Seestern business district near the B7. The U77 runs directly from the main station to the Am Seestern stop, and there is free parking on the grounds. This also makes appointments after the operation easy to reach from all over Düsseldorf, from Meerbusch, Neuss and the surrounding area.

What reasons are there for a breast augmentation?

The nature and appearance of the female breast can be influenced by various factors. Genetic predisposition plays just as much of a role as external influences, such as a pregnancy. For such individual reasons, the wish for a larger, fuller breast is not uncommon.

Consultation and planning

Every breast augmentation at Klinik am Seestern Düsseldorf is planned individually for the patient concerned. A detailed consultation with one of our doctors therefore comes before the treatment. It covers your wishes and ideas, the various methods of breast augmentation and the implants we use. Together with your treating doctor you then decide which technique is an option, taking into account your wishes and your physical prerequisites.

Breast augmentation methods at Klinik am Seestern

Depending on the medical prerequisites and your ideas, our doctors carry out a breast augmentation with an implant or with your own fat and use the common incision techniques. Where medically justifiable, the procedure can also be done as an outpatient without an overnight stay, if you wish. For a breast augmentation with an implant we use branded implants.

Breast augmentation with your own fat or an implant

A breast augmentation can be carried out in different ways. Depending on your individual suitability, you choose between augmentation with your own fat and augmentation with a breast implant. Both methods are carried out regularly at Klinik am Seestern.

A breast augmentation is usually carried out under general anaesthesia and requires a short clinic stay of 1 night for post-operative care. Your body then needs about 4 to 6 weeks of rest.

How do the different breast operation methods work?

If you would like to fall back on your body’s own tissue, breast augmentation with your own fat is an option. In this procedure, fat is liposuctioned from previously determined areas of your body and injected into the fatty tissue of your breast. An incision to insert an implant is not necessary.

The liposuctioned fat is cleaned and introduced into the breast through fine cannulas. Because the body breaks down part of it again in the first months, the final result only becomes apparent after a few months. The transferred fatty tissue also changes with body weight. Your own fat alone is usually not enough for a significant augmentation.

For breast augmentation with an implant there are three possible approaches. Which one is suitable for you will be discussed with you before the operation. The breast implant is usually inserted through an incision in the skin fold under the breast; the scar then lies in the breast fold. The ability to breastfeed and the sensitivity of the breast can be preserved with this approach, but changes are possible.

Three ways to more volume

Which method suits depends on your build, your wishes and the tissue available. The most important differences at a glance.

The implant is placed through a small incision, usually in the inframammary fold, above or below the pectoral muscle. It is suitable if you would like significantly more volume, including with a slim figure. After some years an exchange may become necessary.

More about Preservé™

Your implants: shape, size and position

For the classic breast augmentation we use silicone implants from the company Mentor at Klinik am Seestern; for the Preservé™ method, implants from the manufacturer Motiva. You decide on shape, size and position together with your doctor after the examination.

Round implants

Round implants give volume mainly to the upper part of the breast and create a full décolleté. They are available with different projection, for Mentor for example as moderate profile and high profile.

Anatomical implants

Anatomical implants are teardrop-shaped: fuller at the bottom, tapering off flatter towards the top. They follow the natural contour of the breast and are an option mainly for very slim women or those with little breast tissue of their own.

Above or below the muscle

The implant can lie between the mammary gland and the pectoral muscle or beneath the pectoral muscle. The position influences how the breast looks later, how the implant feels and how well it is covered. Which position suits you depends above all on your own tissue.

Exchanging implants

If you already have implants, you can have them exchanged at Klinik am Seestern, for health reasons such as capsular contracture or at your aesthetic request. You can read more on the page on breast implant exchange.

Your schedule at the Klinik am Seestern

This is how a breast augmentation with an implant proceeds at Klinik am Seestern in Düsseldorf, from the consultation to the result:

  1. Step 1

    Beforehand

Consultation in Düsseldorf. In the consultation we examine you and decide together on the method, implant shape, size and position. You can book your appointment online.

  2. Step 2

    Day of surgery

The procedure. The operation takes about 1 to 1.5 hours and is carried out under general anaesthesia. Afterwards you usually stay in the clinic for one night.

  3. Step 3

    The first few days

Rest. Tightness, bruising and restricted arm mobility are normal. Please do not lift anything heavy and do not do any sport.

  4. Step 4

    After 1 to 2 weeks

Back to everyday life. Most patients are back out among people after one to two weeks and get on with their daily lives.

  5. Step 5

    Weeks 4 to 6

Sports bra, then sport. Until then you wear a sports bra. After that, sport and physical work are possible again after consultation.

  6. Step 6

    After a few months

The result. Tissue and implant have settled, and the final shape of the breast is visible. For aftercare we will see you again at the clinic.

Augment or lift?

Not every wish for a fuller breast can be fulfilled by more volume alone. It is often worth discussing a lift or a combination in the consultation as well.

If the breast sags

An implant gives volume but does not lift a markedly sagging breast. In that case a breast lift can also be advisable, in which the skin envelope is reduced before the implant is inserted.

Shaping with your own fat

For breast augmentation with your own fat, fat is liposuctioned from elsewhere. In the process, the abdomen, hips or thighs are at the same time given a slimmer shape with liposuction.

What does a breast augmentation cost in Düsseldorf? Costs and financing

The costs of a breast augmentation depend on the surgical method, the products used and your individual starting situation. If you also want an asymmetry corrected or a breast lift, the procedure becomes more involved and therefore more expensive. After your consultation we will draw up a no-obligation treatment offer for you. Financing is possible through our financing partner; you can find out more under Financing your treatment.

An aesthetic breast augmentation is a self-pay service; German statutory health insurance does not usually cover it. It may be different for medical reasons, such as a malformation of the breast or after breast cancer surgery.

Frequently asked questions

Who is a breast augmentation suitable for?

A breast augmentation is an option for women who find their breasts too small, whose breasts are unequal in size or whose breast has lost volume after a pregnancy or weight loss. Whether the procedure is suitable for you, we clarify after an examination in the consultation in Düsseldorf.

Which implants are used?

At Klinik am Seestern, for the classic breast augmentation we use silicone implants from the company Mentor in various shapes: moderate profile, high profile and anatomical shape. For the Preservé™ method, implants from the manufacturer Motiva are used.

How do I choose the shape, size and position of the implant?

That depends on your build, your breast tissue, your skin and your wishes. Shape and size determine volume and décolleté; the position above or below the pectoral muscle influences how the breast looks and feels later. Your doctor will discuss the options with you and recommend what suits your starting situation.

How are the implants inserted?

There are three variants for inserting the implant: through an incision in the armpit area, in the area of the nipple or in the lower breast fold. The last variant is used most often.

How much larger does the breast become with your own fat?

With your own fat, about half to one full cup size per treatment is usually possible. Part of the fat is broken down again in the first months, so a second session is sometimes advisable. For significantly more volume, an implant is more likely to be an option.

What accompanying symptoms should I expect?

In the first few days, arm mobility may be restricted. Tightness, bruising and pain, in particular below the pectoral muscles, are also possible. The discomfort can usually be relieved with medication.

What risks does a breast augmentation have?

As with any operation, wound-healing problems, secondary bleeding, infections and conspicuous scars are possible. With implants there are additional specific risks, such as capsular contracture, displacement of the implant or a change in shape. We will inform you in detail about all risks before the procedure.

What do I need to bear in mind after a breast augmentation?

We recommend that you wear a sports bra for the first four to six weeks after the operation. You should also avoid sport and physical work during this time. In the first eight weeks after the operation, please refrain from sunbathing and sunbeds.

What scars remain after a breast augmentation?

The incision is usually in the fold under the breast, less often at the edge of the areola or in the armpit. The scar is small and usually fades over time. With the Preservé™ method, an incision of about 2.5 cm in the inframammary fold is sufficient.

How long do breast implants last?

Modern silicone implants are made for a long period of wear. Even so, an exchange may become necessary after some years, for example in the case of capsular contracture or if the breast changes. Regular check-ups are therefore part of the process.

Can I still breastfeed after a breast augmentation?

With an incision in the inframammary fold, the ability to breastfeed can often be preserved, but there is no guarantee. Please therefore raise any wish to have children in the consultation, so that we can tailor the method and approach to it.

Does German statutory health insurance cover a breast augmentation?

German statutory health insurance does not usually cover an aesthetic breast augmentation. For medical reasons, such as a malformation of the breast or after breast cancer surgery, this can be different. You clarify this in individual cases with your health insurer.

What does a breast augmentation cost in Düsseldorf?

The costs depend on the method, the implant and your starting situation. After your consultation at Klinik am Seestern you will receive a no-obligation treatment offer. Financing is possible through our financing partner.
