Common wishes when adjusting an Asian nose shape

  • Wish for a higher, more emphasised nasal bridge

  • Wish for a more defined nasal tip or narrower nasal wings

  • Wish for a nose shape that matches your own aesthetic ideas, or for freer nasal breathing

What is meant by the adjustment of Asian nose shapes?

The adjustment of Asian nose shapes is an aesthetic surgical procedure in which individual features of the nose are changed according to the wishes of the patient. This can affect the shape, size and structure of the nose, for example raising the nasal bridge, narrowing the nasal wings or a more pronounced definition of the nasal tip. The aim is a nose that, according to your ideas, suits the rest of your facial features without blurring the ethnic characteristics.

Which anatomical features are common?

Asian noses often show certain anatomical features, such as a flatter nasal bridge, broader nasal wings and a rather round, less defined nasal tip. The columella is often shorter and the angle between the nose and upper lip smaller. These features are genetically determined and vary greatly from person to person.

Aims of adjusting the Asian nose shape

  • Changing the proportions of the nose according to your wishes and to suit the rest of the face

  • Raising the nasal bridge for a more emphasised profile

  • Shaping the nasal tip according to your ideas

  • Preserving the ethnic characteristics through an individually planned correction

What aesthetic and functional wishes are there?

Frequently expressed aesthetic wishes are a higher, narrower nasal bridge, a more defined nasal tip and a narrower nose shape overall. In addition, an improvement in nasal breathing may be wanted if the structure of the nose impairs it.

What is the procedure for adjusting an Asian nose shape?

The procedure begins with a detailed consultation in which the surgeon discusses your wishes and examines the anatomy of your nose. The operation is usually performed under general anaesthesia and, depending on the extent of the correction, can take several hours. Typical procedures are inserting implant material or your own cartilage to raise the nasal bridge, narrowing the nasal wings by removing tissue, and shaping the nasal tip. After the operation a recovery phase of a few weeks is necessary, during which swelling and bruising subside. The final result only shows after that.

This is how the adjustment of your nose shape proceeds at Klinik am Seestern:

  1. Step 1

    Beforehand

Consultation in Düsseldorf. We discuss your wishes and examine the anatomy of your nose. You can book the appointment online.

  2. Step 2

    Day of surgery

The procedure. The operation is usually performed under general anaesthesia and, depending on the extent of the correction, can take several hours.

  3. Step 3

    The first few days

In the clinic. You stay one to two nights. Swelling and bruising are normal in the first period.

  4. Step 4

    Weeks 1 to 2

Plaster splint. You wear the plaster splint and avoid nicotine, sunbathing and sport; you wash your hair with your head bent forward.

  5. Step 5

    After about 14 days

Back to everyday life. The stitches are removed, and you are back out among people after one to two weeks. In most cases you are unfit for work for about 14 days.

  6. Step 6

    After a few weeks

The result. After a recovery phase of a few weeks, swelling and bruising have subsided; the final result only shows after that.

What does the result depend on?

The result cannot be guaranteed. It depends on the anatomical starting situation, the technique chosen, individual healing and aftercare. The surgical change is intended to be permanent; injuries to the nose can change the result later. Realistic expectations are important; these are agreed together with the surgeon in the consultation.

What risks and limitations are associated with the procedure?

As with any operation, this nose correction also involves risks and possible complications. These include infections, bleeding, unwanted scarring or asymmetrical healing. The aesthetic result may differ from expectations; in rare cases a follow-up correction is necessary. Swelling and bruising can temporarily change the result in the first weeks. Follow the aftercare instructions carefully.

What does the adjustment of Asian nose shapes cost in Düsseldorf?

Every procedure is planned individually; the costs depend on which techniques are combined, for example whether implant material or the body’s own tissue is used and whether a functional correction is included. After your consultation at Klinik am Seestern, you will receive a no-obligation treatment offer. Financing is possible through our financing partner; more about this under Financing your treatment.

What should you look out for when choosing a surgeon?

The surgeon should have experience in aesthetic and reconstructive nasal surgery, especially in the correction of Asian nose shapes, understand your wishes and give you a realistic assessment of the possible changes. In the consultation, ask about experience with the planned procedure and make sure there is a relationship of trust.

The Deutsches Nasenzentrum® at the Klinik am Seestern is headed by Dr. med. Michael Bromba. Arrange your appointment for a no-obligation, personal consultation.

Frequently asked questions

When does German statutory health insurance pay for a nose correction?

If the operation is necessary because of a functional disorder of the nose, private health insurance or Beihilfe (German civil service allowance) may cover part of the costs. This does not apply to the aesthetic part of the nose correction. Please discuss this with your private health insurance or Beihilfe. For people with statutory insurance, reimbursement by the German statutory health insurance fund may be possible if there is a medical indication. You will receive further information in your personal consultation.

How painful is nose surgery and how long is the nose swollen?

Any pain that occurs can be treated with accompanying medication. Swelling and bruising under the eyes are possible and usually subside largely by the time the cast is removed.

How long is the stay in the clinic for a nose correction?

That depends on the extent of the procedure. As a rule, you can leave the clinic one day after the correction; in individual cases you stay for a second night for observation. Smaller measures can be carried out as an outpatient.

How should I behave straight after a nose correction, how long do I have to wear a cast and when can I return to sport?

In the first one to two weeks, wear the plaster splint applied straight after the correction, with an adhesive or acrylic dressing. Avoid nicotine, sunbathing and sport during this time. Wash your hair with your head bent forward. In the first six weeks after the nose correction you should also refrain from wearing glasses.

How long will I be signed off sick after nose surgery?

That depends on the type of procedure, for example on whether only the nose tip is corrected, the nose is straightened or a comprehensive nose correction is carried out. In most cases you are unable to work for 14 days, in exceptional cases somewhat longer. Your treating doctor will discuss with you what time off work to expect in your case.

What does the adjustment of Asian nose shapes cost in Düsseldorf?

The costs depend on the techniques planned for you. After your consultation at Klinik am Seestern, you will receive a no-obligation treatment offer; financing is possible through our financing partner.
