Nose tip correction in Düsseldorf: consultation, operation and aftercare in one place

Consultation room of the clinic
Consultation room

The correction of your nose tip takes place at the Deutsches Nasenzentrum® of the Klinik am Seestern in Düsseldorf, from the first consultation to the follow-up appointments. The specialist clinic for plastic and aesthetic surgery has its own operating theatres and patient rooms, so that after the procedure you can stay one night in the building if needed.

You will find the clinic on the left bank of the Rhine in Lörick, in the Am Seestern business district near the B7. The U77 runs directly from the main station to the Am Seestern stop, and parking on the grounds is free. This also makes the follow-up appointments in the first few days easy to reach from all over Düsseldorf, from Meerbusch and from Neuss.

Reasons for a correction of the nose tip

  • Asymmetries of the nose tip
  • Drooping or broad nose tip
  • Unbalanced proportions between the nose tip and the rest of the nose

What is meant by a nose tip correction?

Nose tip correction is a surgical procedure that changes the shape and proportion of the nose tip. Patients often find their nose tip too broad, too bulbous, asymmetrical or drooping. In a nose tip correction, the nose tip is reshaped, refined or raised so that it suits the other facial features better.

Possible aims of a correction of the nose tip

  • Refinement of the nose profile in relation to the rest of the face

  • Adjustment of the nose tip to the facial features

  • Balancing of asymmetries of the nose tip

  • More balanced proportions between the nose tip and the rest of the face

What treatment options are there for the nose tip?

There are various surgical techniques for correcting the nose tip. Which one comes into question depends on the findings and on the patient’s wishes. The most common treatment options include:

These techniques can be used individually or in combination. The method depends on the anatomical conditions and the patient’s goals.

How does the treatment work for a nose tip correction?

It begins with a detailed consultation in which the surgeon discusses your wishes and expectations. Examining the structure of the nose and the facial features is the basis for an individual surgical plan. The operation is usually carried out under local anaesthesia with sedation or under general anaesthesia. Depending on its extent, it takes about one to two hours.

After the operation, the nose is often stabilised with a splint to secure the new shape and support healing. Patients stay for a few hours or one night for observation. In the first few days after the operation, follow-up appointments are necessary to monitor the healing process.

This is how your nose tip correction proceeds at the Klinik am Seestern:

  1. Step 1

    Beforehand

Consultation in Düsseldorf. We discuss your wishes and expectations and examine the structure of the nose and the facial features. From this, your individual surgical plan emerges; you can book the appointment online.

  2. Step 2

    Day of surgery

The procedure. The operation usually takes place under local anaesthesia with sedation or under general anaesthesia and, depending on its extent, takes about one to two hours. A splint then secures the new shape.

  3. Step 3

    The first few days

Observation and check-ups. You stay for a few hours or one night for observation. Follow-up appointments take place in the first few days; keep your head raised and avoid physical exertion.

  4. Step 4

    Weeks 1 to 2

Plaster splint. You wear the plaster splint and avoid nicotine, sunbathing and sport; you wash your hair with your head bent forward.

  5. Step 5

    After about 14 days

Back to everyday life. The stitches are removed, and you are back out among people after one to two weeks. In most cases you are unfit for work for about 14 days.

  6. Step 6

    Up to week 6

No glasses. For the first six weeks after the correction, you do not wear glasses.

  7. Step 7

    After several months

The result. The final result is usually visible once the swelling has completely subsided.

What restrictions come with a nose tip correction?

As with any surgical procedure, temporary restrictions occur after a nose tip correction. These include swelling and bruising in the area of the nose and around the eyes, which are most pronounced in the first few days after the operation. The nose tip may react sensitively to touch for a while, and pain or a feeling of pressure may occur. Nasal breathing can also be restricted by swelling in the first few weeks. These complaints are usually temporary. During the healing phase, avoid physical exertion and keep your head raised so that the swelling goes down.

What does the result of a nose tip correction depend on?

The result depends on the starting situation, the thickness of the skin, the nature of the cartilage, the planning, the surgical technique and the course of healing. If there are breathing problems caused by the structure of the nose tip, the procedure can also improve nasal breathing. The final result is usually only visible after several months, once the swelling has completely subsided.

What risks are there with a nose tip correction?

As with any surgical procedure, there are also risks with a nose tip correction. The most common include infections, bleeding, scarring or an undesirable aesthetic result, which in rare cases may require a revision. Temporary swelling, bruising and restricted nasal breathing are normal in the first few weeks. In rare cases, longer-lasting asymmetries or changes in skin sensitivity may occur. Follow the aftercare instructions carefully in order to support healing and reduce risks.

What does a nose tip correction cost in Düsseldorf?

You can conveniently pay in instalments through our financing partner medipay. How high the costs are in your case depends on the extent of the procedure and on which techniques are combined; more on the costs of rhinoplasty on the Rhinoplasty page. What should I look for when choosing a doctor for a nose tip correction?

Make sure that the surgeon has experience in nasal surgery. Find out about the medical qualifications, for example the specialist title and memberships of specialist societies. Ask about experience with the planned procedure during the consultation. There should be enough time for the consultation so that your wishes and concerns can be discussed, realistic expectations clarified and the course of the operation explained clearly.

The Deutsches Nasenzentrum® at the Klinik am Seestern is headed by Dr. med. Michael Bromba. Feel free to arrange an appointment for a no-obligation consultation.

Frequently asked questions

When does German statutory health insurance pay for a nose correction?

If the operation is necessary because of a functional disorder of the nose, private health insurance or Beihilfe (German civil service allowance) may cover part of the costs. This does not apply to the aesthetic part of the nose correction. Please clarify this beforehand with your private health insurance or Beihilfe. For people with statutory insurance, reimbursement by the German statutory health insurance fund is possible if there is a medical indication. You will receive further information in the personal consultation.

How painful is nose surgery and how long is the nose swollen?

Pain after the operation can usually be treated well with medication. Swelling and bruising under the eyes are possible; they have usually subsided by the time the cast is removed.

How long is the stay in the clinic for a nose correction?

As a rule, you can leave the clinic one day after the correction. In a few exceptional cases you stay for a second night for observation. Smaller procedures can be done on an outpatient basis.

How should I behave straight after a nose correction, how long do I have to wear a cast and when can I return to sport?

In the first one to two weeks you wear a plaster splint applied straight after the correction, with an adhesive or acrylic dressing. Avoid nicotine, sunbathing and sport during this time. Wash your hair with your head bent forward. In the first six weeks after the nose correction you should also not wear glasses.

How long will I be signed off sick after nose surgery?

That depends on which type of nose correction is necessary in your case. It makes a difference whether only the tip of the nose is corrected, the nose is straightened or a comprehensive nose correction is carried out. In most cases you are unfit for work for about 14 days, in exceptional cases somewhat longer. In the consultation you will find out how much time off work you should expect in your case.
