Your breast lift takes place at Klinik am Seestern in Düsseldorf, from the first consultation to the follow-up appointments afterwards. The specialist clinic for plastic and aesthetic surgery has its own operating theatres and patient rooms: you are advised and operated on in the same place where you also spend the nights after the procedure and where you return for aftercare.

The clinic is on the left bank of the Rhine in Lörick, in the Am Seestern business district near the B7. The U77 runs directly from the main station to the Am Seestern stop, and there is free parking on the grounds. For what reasons is a breast lift carried out?

Common reasons for wanting a breast lift are:

  • Changes to the breast after a pregnancy
  • major weight loss
  • heavy physical strain

The female breast changes over the course of life through various influences. Pregnancies or major weight loss can change the relationship between the skin envelope of the breast and the fatty and glandular tissue it contains. In a breast lift, the breast is adapted to this changed relationship and reshaped.

Consultation and planning before a breast lift

As every breast is different, a breast lift is planned individually and carefully for each patient. To this end we offer you a detailed consultation beforehand with our doctors, in which your ideas and wishes are the focus.

There are various techniques for a breast lift. Which one is an option depends on your ideas, the nature of your breast and medical considerations. Your doctor will discuss with you in a personal conversation how the incision can run and what result is aimed for with it, and will plan the procedure together with you.

Breast lift: the procedure at Klinik am Seestern

A breast lift is usually carried out under general anaesthesia. A stay of usually 2 nights is necessary for care after the operation. After the breast lift, your body needs 4 to 6 weeks of rest.

This is how a breast lift proceeds at Klinik am Seestern in Düsseldorf, from the consultation to the result:

  1. Step 1

    Beforehand

Consultation in Düsseldorf. In the consultation we examine you and decide on the incision together. You can book your appointment online.

  2. Step 2

    Day of surgery

The procedure. The operation takes about 3 hours and is carried out under general anaesthesia. Afterwards you usually stay in the clinic for 2 nights.

  3. Step 3

    The first few days

Rest. Arm mobility may be restricted; tightness, bruising and pain are possible. The discomfort can usually be relieved with medication and subsides after a few days.

  4. Step 4

    After 1 to 2 weeks

Back to everyday life. After one to two weeks you are usually back out among people.

  5. Step 5

    Weeks 4 to 6

Support bra, then sport. Until then you wear a support bra, which supports the new shape during healing, and refrain from sport and physical exertion.

  6. Step 6

    Until week 8

No sun on the scars. In the first eight weeks after the operation, please refrain from sunbathing and sunbeds.

Aims of a breast lift

  • Firmer breast through removal of excess skin
  • Lifting of the breast and balancing of asymmetries
  • Support for an upright posture

How do the different breast lift methods work?

The aim of a breast lift is to change the breast in shape, firmness and size. Depending on the size and nature of the breast, the doctor chooses the suitable surgical technique. The techniques differ essentially in the incision. By removing excess, slackened skin and, where necessary, repositioning the nipple, the breast is given a new shape. In making the incision, care is taken to keep the scars as small as possible. For the first 4 to 6 weeks, wearing a support bra is necessary in order to support the new shape of the breast during healing.

Methods compared

The incisions compared

Which incision is suitable depends on how much the breast sags and how much skin has to be removed.

01O-incisionaround the areola

The incision runs around the areola; at the colour transition the scar is often inconspicuous later. It is suitable for mild sagging, when the nipple only needs to be raised slightly.

02I-incisionvertical, “Lollipop”

A vertical incision down to the inframammary fold is added to the incision around the areola. This allows significantly more skin to be removed and the shape to be modelled more precisely, which is why the I-incision is the basis of many breast lifts.

In addition, a horizontal incision runs in the inframammary fold, where the scar is usually covered by the bra. The T-incision is an option for a large excess of skin or when the breast needs to be clearly reshaped.

You can usually leave the clinic two days after the operation.

What do I need to bear in mind after a breast lift?

We recommend that you wear a support bra for the first four to six weeks after the operation and avoid sport and physical exertion. In the first eight weeks after the operation, please refrain from sunbathing and sunbeds.

What effects can a breast lift have on a later pregnancy and my ability to breastfeed?

A pregnancy is generally possible after a breast lift. The ability to breastfeed may be restricted under certain circumstances.
