Some fatty deposits, for example on the abdomen or hips, remain despite exercise and changes to diet. Fat suction (liposuction) can reduce such localised accumulations of fat in a targeted way. Which body areas may be an option for you, you discuss in the consultation with our doctors in Düsseldorf.

Liposuction in Düsseldorf: consultation, operation and aftercare in one place

Consultation room of the clinic
Consultation room

Your liposuction takes place at the Klinik am Seestern in Düsseldorf, from the first consultation to the check-ups afterwards. The specialist clinic for plastic and aesthetic surgery has its own operating theatres and patient rooms: you are advised and operated on in the place where, after a larger procedure, you also spend the night and come back for aftercare.

The clinic is on the left bank of the Rhine in Lörick, in the Am Seestern business district near the B7. The U77 runs directly from the main station to the Am Seestern stop, and there is free parking on the grounds. This also makes appointments after the operation easy to reach from all over Düsseldorf, from Meerbusch, Neuss and the surrounding area.

Common reasons for liposuction

  • Localised fatty deposits that barely respond to exercise and diet
  • Wish for a more balanced body contour
  • Dissatisfaction with individual body areas
  • Discomfort caused by accumulations of fat, for example chafing or restrictions in everyday life

Fatty deposits that barely respond to diets often sit in the abdominal region and often cannot be reduced significantly even by a lot of exercise. With good skin quality, smaller fatty deposits can be treated with fat suction (liposuction) without a surgical skin tightening being needed in addition. Whether this applies in your case depends mainly on the elasticity of your skin.

Liposuction of the abdomen, hips, legs and arms

Liposuction may be an option if fatty deposits prove stubborn despite exercise and diet. The cause is often genetic predisposition, which determines where the body stores fat. Liposuction is possible on many body areas, for example on the abdomen, hips, legs, arms and other body areas. Liposuction is not suitable for treating severe excess weight; it serves to shape individual body areas. If you would like to lose weight, other treatments such as the gastric balloon or the POSE procedure may be an option.

Body areas

Where liposuction is an option

Liposuction is possible on many body areas, and several areas can be treated in one procedure. Which ones they should be in your case, you decide together during the consultation.

01AbdomenAbdominal area

Fatty deposits that barely respond to diets and exercise often sit on the abdomen. With good skin quality, liposuction alone may be enough. If a lot of skin is left in excess after pregnancies or weight loss, a tummy tuck is an option.

02Hipsand waist

On the hips and waist, fatty deposits widen the contour to the side. They can be liposuctioned in a targeted way, on request in the same procedure as the abdomen, within the limits of what is medically justifiable. After major weight loss, a body lift tightens the abdomen, flanks, thighs and buttocks in one procedure.

03LegsThighs, saddlebags, ankles

The body preferentially stores fat reserves on the thighs, on the outside for example as so-called saddlebags. If the skin is slack, a thigh lift can be combined with liposuction.

On the upper arms, liposuction can reduce deposits as long as the skin can still adapt to the new contour. If the skin on the inside of the upper arms hangs noticeably, an upper arm lift makes more sense, together with liposuction if needed.

Liposuction under local anaesthesia, twilight sedation or general anaesthesia

Depending on the area and method, liposuction takes one to four hours and is carried out under local anaesthesia, twilight sedation or general anaesthesia. Which anaesthesia is suitable, we decide together with you according to the extent of the procedure and your state of health. Before the liposuction, your treating doctor marks the areas to be treated. Small incisions are made in inconspicuous spots, for example in the navel, through which fat cells are first loosened with a cannula and then suctioned out with a vacuum pump. Afterwards, a close-fitting bandage or a compression garment is applied, which is intended to counteract swelling and support healing.

Aims of liposuction

  • Reduction of localised fatty deposits
  • More balanced contour of the treated body areas
  • Combination with tightening if the skin does not retract sufficiently

What happens during the operation and how does the water-jet technique work?

In a personal consultation with one of our doctors, you discuss your ideas and clarify whether liposuction is suitable for them. If so, you decide together on the areas from which fat is to be removed. The procedure is carried out under general anaesthesia, twilight sedation or local anaesthesia. In liposuction with the water-jet technique, a mixture of saline solution and local anaesthetic is introduced into the specified areas, and the fat is then suctioned out through a small incision in an inconspicuous spot. Particularly thin cannulas are intended to spare nerves and vessels and also make procedures possible on hard-to-reach areas such as the ankles. After the procedure, you first wear an elastic bandage against the swelling and then, for several weeks, a compression garment. The aim of liposuction is an improved contour of the treated parts of the body. The result depends, among other things, on skin quality, the initial findings and a stable body weight.

This is how liposuction proceeds at the Klinik am Seestern in Düsseldorf, from the consultation to the result:

  1. Step 1

    Beforehand

Consultation. During the consultation, we clarify whether liposuction is suitable for your ideas and decide together on the areas. You can book your appointment online.

  2. Step 2

    Day of surgery

The procedure. The areas are marked, then the fat is suctioned out through small incisions, under local anaesthesia, twilight sedation or general anaesthesia. Afterwards, you go home or stay one night in the clinic.

  3. Step 3

    After 2 to 3 days

Back among people. After 2 to 3 days, you are usually back out among people. Because of the risk of thrombosis, you should not sit for longer than two hours at a time.

  4. Step 4

    Weeks 1 to 3

Taking it easy. You avoid physical exertion, sunbathing and saunas during the first two to three weeks so that the wounds can heal well.

  5. Step 5

    Weeks 4 to 6

Compression. Until then, you wear compression garments all day. They are intended to counteract swelling and to help the skin settle back against the tissue.

  6. Step 6

    After a few months

The result. The swelling has subsided and the new contour of the treated areas is visible. How it turns out depends, among other things, on your skin quality, the initial findings and a stable body weight.

What does liposuction cost in Düsseldorf? Costs and financing

The cost of liposuction depends on the extent and duration of the procedure. The more complex the procedure, the higher the cost, for example if, in addition to liposuction, a tightening of the body area concerned is necessary. In that case, liposuction with a tummy tuck, thigh lift or upper arm lift, for example, may be an option. As part of the consultation, we will draw up a no-obligation cost estimate for you. Financing is possible through our financing partner, more on this under Financing your treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Can several body areas be treated with liposuction?

Yes, several areas can be liposuctioned in one procedure. There are, however, limits to what is medically justifiable. During the consultation, we discuss which treatment may be an option in your case.

Can fat cells form again in the same place after the procedure?

The number of fat cells is largely determined genetically. Fat cells removed by liposuction usually do not form again. With marked weight gain, however, the remaining fat cells can enlarge, including in the treated areas.

Do scars form after liposuction?

Small scars of about 4 to 5 mm form at the puncture sites. Where possible, they are placed in inconspicuous spots and usually fade over time.

How long does healing take and why do I have to wear compression garments?

We recommend wearing compression garments all day for the first four to six weeks. They are intended to counteract swelling and to support the skin as it settles back against the tissue. Because of the risk of thrombosis, avoid sitting for longer than two hours at a time. You should avoid physical exertion during the first two to three weeks, and likewise sunbathing and saunas, so that the wounds can heal well.

What does liposuction cost in Düsseldorf?

The costs depend on the extent and duration of the procedure, that is, on how many body areas are treated and whether tightening is also necessary. After your consultation at the Klinik am Seestern, you will receive a no-obligation cost estimate. Financing is possible through our financing partner.
