Reasons for a correction of the nose profile

  • Nose proportions that do not match the rest of the face
  • Asymmetries or irregularities in the side profile
  • Wish for a more balanced side profile

What is meant by an adjustment of the side profile of the nose?

Adjusting the side profile of the nose is a form of rhinoplasty that changes the profile of the nose. Often the aim is to remove a nasal hump, smooth the bridge of the nose or adapt the proportions of the nose to the rest of the face. The procedure can have aesthetic and, where there are symptoms, also functional aims.

What restrictions come with an adjustment of the side profile of the nose?

After a surgical adjustment of the side profile of the nose, temporary restrictions occur. These include swelling, bruising and possible breathing difficulties in the first few days after the operation. During this time, avoid physical exertion and follow the medical instructions carefully to support healing.

Possible functional aims of a correction of the nose profile

  • Improved nasal breathing where the structure of the nose is crooked or the airways are narrowed

  • Relief of symptoms such as a feeling of pressure, provided they are due to structural changes

  • Stabilisation of the structure of the nose as part of the correction

What treatment options are there for the nose profile?

There are various surgical approaches for changing the side profile of the nose. These include removing a nasal hump, straightening the bridge of the nose, reducing or raising the height of the nose, and realigning the tip of the nose. Depending on the findings, these procedures can be combined. The aim is a nose shape that looks natural and suits the face.

How does the treatment work for a surgical adjustment of the side profile of the nose?

It begins with a detailed consultation in which the surgeon discusses your wishes and examines the structure of the nose. The operation is usually carried out under general anaesthesia and normally takes one to two hours. This is followed by a phase of healing and aftercare in which the result gradually stabilises and the final profile becomes visible.

This is how the correction of your nose profile proceeds at the Klinik am Seestern:

  1. Step 1

    Beforehand

Consultation in Düsseldorf. We discuss your wishes and examine the structure of the nose; from this, the plan for your procedure emerges. You can book the appointment online.

  2. Step 2

    Day of surgery

The procedure. The operation usually takes place under general anaesthesia and normally takes one to two hours. A splint then stabilises the nose.

  3. Step 3

    The first few days

In the clinic. You stay one to two nights. Swelling, bruising and breathing difficulties are possible in the first few days; avoid physical exertion.

  4. Step 4

    Weeks 1 to 2

Plaster splint. You wear the plaster splint and avoid nicotine, sunbathing and sport; you wash your hair with your head bent forward.

  5. Step 5

    After about 14 days

Back to everyday life. The stitches are removed, and you are back out among people after one to two weeks. In most cases you are unfit for work for about 14 days.

  6. Step 6

    Up to week 6

No glasses. For the first six weeks after the correction, you do not wear glasses.

  7. Step 7

    After the swelling goes down

The profile. The result gradually stabilises; the final profile can only be assessed once the swelling has subsided.

What does the result of an adjustment of the side profile of the nose depend on?

The result depends on the starting situation, the nature of the skin, cartilage and bone, the planning, the surgical technique and the course of healing. Where there are functional complaints, the procedure can also improve nasal breathing. The final profile can only be assessed once the swelling has subsided.

What risks are there with an adjustment of the side profile of the nose?

As with any operation, there are risks here too. Possible complications include infections, bleeding, scarring or an undesirable result that may require a revision. Temporary swelling and bruising are normal and mostly subside within a few weeks. Careful aftercare supports the healing process and helps to reduce risks.

What does a nose profile correction cost in Düsseldorf?

The costs depend on which approaches are combined and how extensive the procedure is. You can conveniently pay in instalments through our financing partner medipay. More on this on the Rhinoplasty page. After your consultation you will receive a no-obligation treatment quote. More on financing under Financing your treatment.

What should I look for when choosing a doctor for a correction of the nose profile?

Make sure that the surgeon has experience in nasal surgery. Find out about the medical qualifications, for example the specialist title and memberships of specialist societies. Ask about experience with the planned procedure during the consultation. Open communication is important so that your wishes and expectations are taken into account.

The Deutsches Nasenzentrum® at the Klinik am Seestern is headed by Dr. med. Michael Bromba. Feel free to arrange an appointment for a no-obligation consultation.

Frequently asked questions

When does German statutory health insurance pay for a nose correction?

If the operation is necessary because of a functional disorder of the nose, private health insurance or Beihilfe (German civil service allowance) may cover part of the costs. This does not apply to the aesthetic part of the nose correction. Please clarify this beforehand with your private health insurance or Beihilfe. For people with statutory insurance, reimbursement by the German statutory health insurance fund is possible if there is a medical indication. You will receive further information in the personal consultation.

How painful is nose surgery and how long is the nose swollen?

Pain after the operation can usually be treated well with medication. Swelling and bruising under the eyes are possible; they have usually subsided by the time the cast is removed.

How long is the stay in the clinic for a nose correction?

As a rule, you can leave the clinic one day after the correction. In a few exceptional cases you stay for a second night for observation. Smaller procedures can be done on an outpatient basis.

How should I behave straight after a nose correction, how long do I have to wear a cast and when can I return to sport?

In the first one to two weeks you wear a plaster splint applied straight after the correction, with an adhesive or acrylic dressing. Avoid nicotine, sunbathing and sport during this time. Wash your hair with your head bent forward. In the first six weeks after the nose correction you should also not wear glasses.

How long will I be signed off sick after nose surgery?

That depends on which type of nose correction is necessary in your case. It makes a difference whether only the tip of the nose is corrected, the nose is straightened or a comprehensive nose correction is carried out. In most cases you are unfit for work for about 14 days, in exceptional cases somewhat longer. In the consultation you will find out how much time off work you should expect in your case.

What does a correction of the nose profile cost in Düsseldorf?

That depends on the extent. You can pay for the procedure conveniently in instalments through our financing partner medipay. After the consultation you will receive a no-obligation treatment offer.
