Where a double chin comes from: fat, skin or chin shape
Fatty tissue under the chin
Where the body stores fat is determined to a large extent by predisposition. Under the chin, such a pad is often stubborn, even at a normal weight and with plenty of exercise. This is exactly where liposuction comes in.
Sagging skin on the neck
Over the years the skin loses firmness, and on the neck this shows early. Liposuction removes fat but does not tighten clearly slackened skin. In that case a tightening procedure is the more suitable route, alone or in addition.
Shape of the chin and lower jaw
Sometimes the cause lies not in the fat but in the bone. If the chin is developed too large or too small, a chin correction changes the proportions of the face. With a protruding chin and a double chin, a small liposuction can be included in the same procedure.

How we plan liposuction of the chin in Düsseldorf
Step 1
Consultation
Examination. We look at your chin, neck and jawline, check the firmness of the skin and discuss your ideas and the limits of the procedure.
Step 2
Before the procedure
Marking and anaesthesia. Your doctor marks the area. Depending on the extent, the procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia, twilight sedation or general anaesthesia.
Step 3
The procedure
Water-jet technique. A solution of saline and local anaesthetic is introduced, then the fat is suctioned out through small puncture sites with a thin cannula.
Step 4
Afterwards
Dressing and compression. A close-fitting dressing and then compression support healing. Depending on the extent, you go home the same day or stay one night with us.

Healing and compression after liposuction of the chin
In the first few days, swelling, a feeling of tension and bruising under the chin are normal. After liposuction, the Klinik am Seestern recommends wearing compression all day for the first four to six weeks. We will explain to you in the consultation what compression looks like on the chin and how long you wear it in your case.
Patients are usually back out among people 2 to 3 days after liposuction. In the first two to three weeks you should avoid physical exertion, as well as sunbathing and saunas, so that the puncture sites heal well. The stitches dissolve on their own. What the new contour looks like only becomes clear once the swelling has subsided; the result also depends on your skin and a stable weight. More on this under After liposuction.

Risks and limits of liposuction of the chin
Even a small procedure is a procedure. Bruising, swelling, wound-healing problems, numbness in the treated skin and surface irregularities are possible; in addition there are the risks of anaesthesia, which vary depending on your state of health. Before the procedure we discuss all risks with you in detail.
Liposuction changes the fat pad, not the shape of the bone and not the quality of the skin. How clearly the contour changes therefore depends on your starting findings. Assessing honestly what is possible and what is not is part of every consultation in Düsseldorf for us.

When the skin on the neck gives way: tightening at the Klinik am Seestern
Facelift with neck tightening
In a facelift, depending on the starting situation, the neck and jawline can also be tightened. Liposuction in the chin or neck area can supplement the procedure.
Thread lift
In a thread lift, fine medical threads are placed under the skin. The possible regions include the jaw and neck area; the procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia and as an outpatient.

Does liposuction help if the double chin comes from the shape of the chin?
No. If the cause lies in the shape of the chin or lower jaw, removing fat does not change anything about that. In that case a chin correction may be the more suitable route, in which a small liposuction can be included in the same procedure.
What if the skin on the neck is loose?
Liposuction removes fat, but it does not tighten clearly slackened skin. Depending on the findings, a facelift with neck tightening, a thread lift on the jaw and neck area or RENUVION® on the neck may then be an option.
Do I have to wear compression after liposuction of the chin?
Yes, every liposuction includes compression, which is meant to counteract swelling and help the skin to settle. We discuss with you in the consultation what it looks like on the chin and how long you wear it.
When am I back out among people after liposuction?
After liposuction, patients are usually back out among people after 2 to 3 days. How long swelling and bruising remain visible on the chin varies individually.
What risks does liposuction of the chin have?

I had my appointment at the practice for a consultation about my lipoedema, and I really want to leave a review even though I haven't had any surgery there yet. It is precisely such little things that make a huge difference to me personally and reinforced my positive overall impression of the practice. The practice itself is also absolutely impressive. It is extremely modern, high-quality and stylishly furnished. You feel more as if you are entering a luxury hotel than a traditional doctor's practice. Everything seems very well thought out, calm and professional. The organisation around the appointment was also excellent. Even before the appointment, communication was always very friendly, quick and professional. Questions were answered immediately and the whole process seemed perfectly organised. I was also allowed to park in the clinic's car park, which was an enormous relief since everything in the area was completely full. Although it was already later in the afternoon, Dr. Witt even personally saw to it that enquiries were made internally about my question regarding costs. Shortly after I had left the practice, I already received all the information by email. That too simply shows how professionally and attentively they work there.
