Which areas of the thighs and knees can be treated with liposuction
Saddlebags
The deposits on the outside of the thighs, just below the hip, clearly shape the silhouette from the front. They are among the areas that are most often treated with liposuction.
Inner thighs
On the inner thighs the skin is thinner than on the outside. Here we pay particular attention to how well it can settle back after liposuction.
Knees and the transition to the buttocks
Deposits on the inside of the knees and at the transition from the thigh to the buttocks can be reached with fine cannulas, as can hard-to-reach places such as the area around the ankles.
Is it really just fat? The difference from lipoedema
Not every sturdy thigh has a local fat deposit behind it. If your legs hurt on pressure or touch, the right and left sides are affected equally and the feet remain noticeably slim, you should have lipoedema checked by a doctor. Lipoedema is a condition in its own right affecting the subcutaneous fatty tissue and is planned differently from aesthetic liposuction, including as regards German statutory health insurance.
How firm the result looks depends heavily on the skin on the thighs. If it is elastic, it generally settles back after the liposuction. If it has lost firmness after major weight loss or over the years, liposuction alone can achieve little.

How liposuction of the legs proceeds at Klinik am Seestern
Before the procedure, you and your doctor decide which regions will be treated and which type of anaesthesia is suitable: local anaesthesia, twilight sedation or general anaesthesia. On the day of surgery, the areas are marked. With the water-jet technique, a mixture of saline solution and a local anaesthetic is introduced first, then the fat is suctioned out through small access points. The particularly thin cannulas are intended to spare nerves and vessels.
Depending on the region, the procedure takes about 1 to 3 hours. Afterwards we first apply an elastic bandage, and later you wear a compression girdle. Whether you go home the same day or stay one night in the clinic depends on the extent.
The first weeks after liposuction of the thighs
Swelling and bruising on the legs are normal at first
Wear the compression girdle all day for 4 to 6 weeks
Avoid physical exertion for 2 to 3 weeks
Do not sit for longer than two hours at a time
Refrain from sunbathing and sauna for the time being

How the result on the legs turns out depends on the initial findings, the quality of the skin and a stable weight. Fat cells that have been removed do not, as a rule, regrow, but remaining ones can grow if there is a marked weight gain.

How long am I off sick after liposuction of the thighs?
You are usually back out among people after 2 to 3 days. In the first 2 to 3 weeks you should avoid physical exertion. When you return to work depends on whether your work is physically demanding.
How can I tell whether it could be lipoedema?

Why do I have to wear compression after liposuction on the legs?
The girdle is meant to counteract swelling and help the skin settle against the altered tissue. We recommend wearing it all day for the first 4 to 6 weeks.

I had my appointment at the practice for a consultation about my lipoedema, and I really want to leave a review even though I haven't had any surgery there yet. The reason is that this was the first time I felt truly taken seriously during an examination of my lipoedema. Dr. Witt was very friendly and professional from the start, and at the same time incredibly pleasant and humane. He took an exceptional amount of time, examined me very thoroughly and answered all my questions in detail.
