Fat or lipoedema? When the arms hurt
Not every deposit on the upper arms is a local fat depot. If both arms are sturdy to the same degree, hurt on pressure or touch, and the hands stay slim, lipoedema may be behind it. Have this checked by a doctor before liposuction: lipoedema is a condition of the subcutaneous fatty tissue and is treated and planned differently. Liposuction, RENUVION® or upper arm lift: the paths at Klinik am Seestern
Liposuction
With elastic skin, liposuction removes the fat through small access points in inconspicuous places. This does not leave a scar along the arm.
Liposuction with RENUVION®
If the skin is only moderately loose, RENUVION® can be used straight after the liposuction through the same puncture sites, without further incisions. A change in the skin usually shows after about 6 weeks.
Upper arm lift
If the skin visibly hangs, for example after major weight loss, the upper arm lift removes excess skin and fat on the inside of the upper arms. It can be combined with liposuction if needed and leaves a scar on the inside.

Combining upper arms, back and abdomen in one procedure
Sometimes the deposits on the upper arms continue onto the back, or the abdomen and flanks are also bothersome alongside the arms. Several regions can be treated with liposuction in one operation, as long as the extent remains medically justifiable. We decide together which combination suits you once we have examined you.

How liposuction of the upper arms works in Düsseldorf
Step 1
Preliminary discussion
Examination and planning. We assess the fat deposits and skin, discuss your wishes and choose the type of anaesthesia together: local, under twilight sedation or under general anaesthesia.
Step 2
On the day of the operation
Marking. Your doctor marks on your arms where fat is to be removed.
Step 3
The procedure
Liposuction with the water-jet technique. Saline solution with a local anaesthetic is introduced, then the fat is suctioned out with thin cannulas that are intended to spare nerves and vessels.
Step 4
Afterwards
Home, or staying one night. An elastic bandage follows straight after the operation, then the compression girdle. Depending on the extent, you go home the same day or stay one night.

Healing after liposuction of the arms
After 2 to 3 days you can, as a rule, go out among people again. You wear the compression girdle all day for the first 4 to 6 weeks; it is meant to counteract swelling and to support the skin in settling back. Do not put heavy strain on your arms in the first 2 to 3 weeks, and avoid sun and sauna during this time.
Even when the arms have been treated, the advice not to sit for longer than two hours at a time, to prevent thrombosis, still applies. The self-dissolving stitches do not need to be removed; the scars at the access points measure about 4 to 5 mm. More under After liposuction.

Liposuction is an operation and, like any operation, carries risks. These include bruising, swelling, unevenness of the skin, wound-healing disorders, infections and, in rare cases, thrombosis. The reason is that this was the first time I felt truly taken seriously during an examination of my lipoedema. Dr. Witt was very friendly and professional from the start, and at the same time incredibly pleasant and humane. He took an exceptional amount of time, examined me very thoroughly and answered all my questions in detail. Everything seems very well thought out, calm and professional. The organisation around the appointment was also excellent. Even before the appointment, communication was always very friendly, quick and professional. Questions were answered immediately and the whole process seemed perfectly organised. I was also allowed to park in the clinic's car park, which was an enormous relief since everything in the area was completely full. Although it was already later in the afternoon, Dr. Witt even personally saw to it that enquiries were made internally about my question regarding costs. Shortly after I had left the practice, I already received all the information by email. That too simply shows how professionally and attentively they work there.
