How does the swallowable gastric balloon differ?

No operation, no gastroscopy, no anaesthesia: the Elipse® balloon is placed in the stomach during an appointment of about 20 minutes. Neither the insertion nor the removal of the balloon requires an operation, endoscopy or anaesthesia.

How is the Allurion gastric balloon inserted?

You swallow a capsule on a thin tube, which contains the balloon. An X-ray is used to check whether the capsule is in the right place. Once the capsule is in the stomach, the doctor fills the balloon with liquid via the tube. A second X-ray confirms that the balloon is filled. The tube is then carefully withdrawn.

What happens during the dwell time?

For as long as the Allurion gastric balloon is in your stomach, you go through a structured coaching programme tailored to you.

Weeks 1 to 16: With the balloon in your stomach you feel full more quickly and can learn to eat healthy meals in smaller portions. Our coaches look after you throughout the entire period, supported by digital scales and a smartphone app.

Week 16: After about four months the balloon empties and, in the normal course of events, is excreted naturally without any medical procedure being required. To maintain your weight in the long term, you should keep to the eating and lifestyle habits you have learned.

Features

  • No procedure, no gastroscopy: the Allurion gastric balloon is swallowed.
  • No anaesthesia: you are conscious during the treatment.
  • No surgical risks; side effects such as nausea are nevertheless possible in the first few days.
  • Earlier and longer-lasting feeling of fullness due to the smaller stomach volume

If you are interested in a gastric balloon, you can request information and arrange a no-obligation appointment for the first consultation.
